THE SURPRISING BENEFITS OF BEING GRATEFUL

– THE BENEFIT –

How Gratitude Can Help Social Relationships

Forward

This year has brought many social challenges. For some isolation has formed a barrier to social connections. For others life under lockdown has put a strain on their immediate relationships. The surprise benefit of gratitude is how it stands to help many social relationships …

The benefit

A recent study found that gratitude enhances empathy and that in turn, reduces aggression. This is because empathy promotes the ability to be sensitive toward people and to understand their emotions and intentions, commonly triggering a reciprocal cycle. The benefit for us is that gratitude serves as a gentle trigger to a reminder that you are not alone; your problems and insecurities are valid and when shared, help extend and strengthen your social connections.
